Sauerkraut Making Supplies - Everything You Need to Get Started

Want to get started making your own sauerkraut? Then you need a few basic sauerkraut making supplies to get started. I have been making my own sauerkraut for awhile now and have gotten pretty comfortable with the fermentation process. I do all of my sauerkraut fermentation in small batches in mason jars. They are inexpensive and come in several different sizes. You will also need some sea salt. The salt helps draw the moisture out of the crushed cabbage to create the brine. In addition, the salt helps inhibit the bad bacteria so that the good bacteria can grow and give the cabbage that yummy sour flavor. Lastly, I recommend using an airlock lid. The bacteria that create sauerkraut thrive in an oxygen-less environment. The airlock lid helps ensure that the fermenting cabbage isn't exposed to a lot of oxygen.
